From MetaCDN to StreamShark
Where it started. MetaCDN began in 2011 as a spin-out of University of Melbourne research into Multi-CDN delivery: spreading one workload across several content delivery networks so no single provider's outage could take it down. That research became a commercial platform for accelerating websites and delivering video around the world.
What we learned. The delivery problem our customers cared most about was live video. A slow page is an annoyance; a stream that fails during a keynote or a global product launch is a disaster. In 2015 we launched StreamShark to work on exactly that problem, and it grew into the business.
Where it lives on. StreamShark is now an enterprise video platform for live streaming mission-critical events, used by AV, broadcast, and communications teams at some of the world's largest companies. The Multi-CDN reliability work that started MetaCDN is still the backbone: every event runs across multiple CDNs with automatic failover, with plans from self-signup tiers to custom enterprise deployments.
